Youth Services

This June through August a dozen youth with disabilities will learn about the Americans with Disabilities Act, then set their knowledge to practical use determining how accessible local businesses and public buildings, such as libraries, are. The youth will also meet with members of the state legislature to talk about pending bills that would affect people with disabilities.

The Youth Program is also working on a series of community service projects this year. Already, they have taken part in the annual Washtenaw Youth Day of Caring and annual Ypsilanti PRIDE day, baked food for the SOS Community Center, sewed mittens for the homeless and helped in the community gardens at County Farm Park.

Our youth events, mentorship program, Girl Talk series, and scholarship opportunities are designed to aid in the successful transition from school to adult life. We work together with young people to encourage independent living and to build community involvement.
